Find out more about all aspects of family law.
Our firm has been well regarded for many years as having particular interest and expertise in all areas of family law. We have considerable experience gained over many years in conducting divorce and other types of family law proceedings.
However, we recognise that relationship breakdown is stressful and look upon litigation as being a remedy of last resort. With a view to restricting legal costs to clients, we would much prefer to try to resolve family disputes privately through discussion and negotiation, or, if appropriate, by referral to mediation.
Sometimes, of course, this is not possible, and legal proceedings become necessary. We have represented clients in most Sheriff Courts in central Scotland, and are happy to consider acting for clients further afield if we judge that we are nevertheless able to represent them to their best advantage.
Catriona Macdonald has a particular interest in child law issues, including residence and contact disputes, applications in respect of parental rights and responsibilities, the rights of grandparents, and adoption petitions. She also assists clients whose marriage, civil partnership or cohabitation relationship has sadly ended, and is well equipped to address the financial issues arising from relationship breakdown.
John Dickie has represented clients in family disputes in Falkirk Sheriff Court and other Courts for over twenty five years. He has a particular interest in financial provision on divorce and brings considerable experience to disputes involving, for example, valuation of family businesses, pension sharing, and factors justifying a departure from the equal division of marital property.
Catriona Macdonald and John Dickie are both members of the Family Law Association Scotland
